OLD INSTALL INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE UPDATED

First of all, it is important that you install Gallery 2 web application before you install the Gallery 2 bridge component because the Joomla G2 bridge component does not come with Gallery 2. Gallery 2 (standalone) web application must be installed on the same server and on the same domain(sub-domain may be different) then you can continue to install Gallery 2 bridge component to embed Gallery 2 into Joomla CMS.

Installation:

- First, visit Gallery 2 official website and follow the instructions on installing G2  Galler Codex as a standalone application. We will not cover the installation process here as it has been very well documented at their website.

Hint: It is much easier to install Gallery 2 it into a subfolder of your Joomla installed driectory so when it comes to working out your path for the G2 bridge component, it is simply just a level up from your actual joomla install directory (relative path).

Once you have successfully installed and configured Gallery2, proceed to install the G2 bridge component, below.

- Download Gallery 2 bridge component for Joomla here:  forge Always try and go for the latest build version of the bridge component to ensure a better integration.

- Next, login into your Joomla CMS as an admin or super admin (they have the permissions to install components). Go to menu --> choose 'installers' and then select 'components'. This will take you into the component installer screen. Click on 'browse' button and find the G2 bridge component you have downloaded and upload it (making sure it is still zipped up).

- On successful install, it should setup the required database tables and files. You will also see a message telling you that is has been installed successfully. If you are still having issues at this point, refer to  http://help.joomla.org/ and check out the user manual guide on installing components. - Finally, visit:  http://www.gallery-addons.com/Gallery-Addons/Component/Embedding_Gallery2/ to continue to configure the Gallery 2 bridge component to work with Gallery 2. Most of what you need to know about configuring the component is there at the website address given above.

thank you,

Some Additional Information/Tips/Hints:

Description: The Gallery2 Sidebar module allows for the Gallery2 menu that appears in the sidebar in Gallery to be displayed in the Joomla template, allowing Joomla to become the "portal" for Gallery2. This frees screen space your gallery items to appear in the middle of your Joomla web page without the Gallery2 sidebar taking up vertical space in the center. To configure this, do the following steps

<prerequisites are well documented>

In Joomla:

- Install the Gallery2 Bridge Sidebar component (Installers->Components)

- Install the Gallery2 Bridge Sidebar module in Joomla (Installers->Modules). (This will not install as a component i.e. it installs in a different section than the component installed above)

1. In the "general configuration" for the *component*:

---Config Setting -> Full server path to G2 http://forum.4theweb.nl/showthread.php?t=195 Post #3 most helpful

---Display G2 Sidebar: NO

---Display G2 Login: NO

2. Make Main Menu Link

--- Main Menu -> New-> Component-> link to Gallery2, any title you want, Parent Item to Top, choose access level and published

3. Set Side Bar Module

- In the Gallery2 Sidebar Module:

---Set "Published" to YES

---In the right pane "Pages/Items - Menu Item link", select the menu item for the Gallery (do not use "all" or "none"). Rather link to Main Menu item you made above

In Gallery2 Site Admin:

- Themes > (Your theme tab) - Use "Blocks to show in the sidebar" to select what is displayed in the Joomla menu.

You can now access the Gallery Controls from a Joomla menu to create a seamlessly integrated user interface.
